Calgary Flames at Phoenix Coyotes
The Calgary Flames are coming off a big win last night in Colorado, where they quadrupled their output in goals (4) in that one game that they had in their previous four (1). An unexpected offensive outburst is unlikely to happen two games in a row on back-to-back nights on the road.
Phoenix has been reeling for quite a few games now themselves; over their last 10 games, the Coyotes have just two wins (neither in regulation) and haven’t had a regulation win in nearly four weeks. That gets masked by the fact that they are losing a lot of games in extra time, having gone 2-4-4 in those 10 contests.
The last time Calgary was in Phoenix was on October 22nd, a 4-2 win for the Coyotes. The Flames do hold a win over the Coyotes but that was in Calgary, which can be a tough place to play for road teams.
These two teams have only combined for two power play goals in their last ten games, a combined efficiency of 7.1-percent. They have, however, combined to allow seven power play goals in those games so the expectation would be that one of these teams gets a PP goal, and I’ll put that money on Phoenix.
There will be enough goals in this game to have me pick skaters, mostly from Phoenix, for my lineups. That also makes Mike Smith a good play tonight in specific lineups, though I wouldn’t expect an easy game from the Flames, so I don’t expect a shutout or anything like that.
