Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils
The Flyers have been on a pretty good tear of late, having won five of their last six games with their only loss being a 2-1 loss in Colorado last week. They are 8-2-1 over their last 11 games and haven’t allowed a power play goal against in four straight. They also have five power play goals in their last six games and have allowed only 13 goals total over those contests. In short, they’ve been really good lately.
The Devils, meanwhile, have lost back-to-back games for the second time in their last 12 games, a stretch that has seen them go 5-5-2. As had been the problem for most of the last two seasons, the Devils just can’t find the back of the net; in their last six games, they have scored just 11 goals total and their power play efficiency is just 11.8-percent in those games.
There might be concerns for the Flyers breaking down a little bit; tonight will make six road games in ten days for the Flyers and they have another one tomorrow. The Devils, meanwhile, had a couple of days off after the back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, so they should be much better rested.
I’ve been burned recently by the Flyers when I thought they were playing a game they probably shouldn’t win, and they did. Third time’s a charm, however, so I’ll have New Jersey winning, though there may be quite a few goals with both Ray Emery and Martin Brodeur starting.
