Vancouver Canucks at Anaheim Ducks
Roberto Luongo returned for Vancouver last night and saved 46 of 48 shots he faced, though Vancouver fell 3-1 to Los Angeles. They will need to be a lot better defensively tonight as they travel to Anaheim, a team that has one regulation loss in the last 40 calendar days.
Anaheim has been nearly unbeatable at home this year as the Ducks have gone 16-0-2 in their 18 home games so far this year, averaging 3.9 goals for/game and 1.8 goals against/game. Both those marks are the second-best marks in the NHL for a home team.
These two teams met a couple of months ago in Anaheim which resulted in a 3-1 win for the Ducks. That game was much the same circumstance as tonight; Vancouver was playing on back-to-back nights in California while Anaheim had a night off before the game. Vancouver dominated that game pretty much start to finish but goaltending was the difference.
I don’t expect Luongo to come back from injury and get two starts in a row, which means Eddie Lack should get the start tonight. The disparity of that last meeting makes me think tonight will be a close game and not a blow out, as Anaheim sometimes does at home. I do think, however, Anaheim still ends up winning in the end.
