San Jose Sharks at Chicago Blackhawks
The Sharks are coming off a loss yesterday afternoon to the Colorado Avalanche, a 4-3 game that was 4-0 at one point for the Avs. Goaltender Antti Niemi was pulled in this game in favor of Alex Stalock, which was the culmination of Niemi’s slide for the last month; since December 1st, Niemi’s save percentage is .902 in 14 games.
Chicago, meanwhile, is coming off a 5-3 win in New Jersey on Friday night, making it nine games in a row they’ve taken at least a point (6-0-3). In those nine games, the ‘Hawks scored 33 goals (3.66 goals/game) and allowed just 18 (2.0 goals/game). They also tallied seven power play goals over that stretch, allowing just three against.
The Sharks aren’t the same team when they’re not at home. On the season, the Sharks score about one fewer goal/game on the road as compared to at home and allow over a half goal more. Since December 1st, the Sharks are just 3-7 on the road, scoring just 25 goals over that stretch (2.5 goals per game) while allowing 37 against (3.7 goals against per game).
The last time these two teams met was in Chicago in the middle of November, a 5-1 win for the Blackhawks. While that probably won’t be the case again tonight, I do think Chicago wins this game and scores 3-4 goals in the process.
