Detroit Red Wings at Dallas Stars
Somehow, Detroit is still in a playoff spot in the East despite going just 3-6-3 in their last 12 games. The Wings will be taking their 12-4-3 road record into Dallas tonight, which includes a 4-2 record against Western Conference opponents. Of course, two of those wins were against Calgary and Edmonton, but all the same, impressive.
Dallas is coming off that loss to Montréal a couple of nights ago, but that was their first regulation loss in the last eight games (5-1-2) and they are still 5-2-2 at home since December 1st.
This game is a little bit tough to cap because we found out yesterday that the flu bug is running through the Stars’ team like a hot knife through butter and kept some key players out of practice, namely Tyler Seguin. Of course it’s difficult to determine the exact effect of the flu virus on a team full of different players, but this tough matchup just got a little worse for Dallas.
I’m going to go a bit off the board and say Detroit takes the game tonight, and that would make Jimmy Howard a decent play tonight despite his high price. At the very least, I will be taking a few players off the Red Wings power play.
Who knows who the flu has affected, but since Sergei Gonchar went out with a concussion, Alex Goligoski has seemed to be locked into from 27-30 minutes a night. That’s a lot of ice time.
