Edmonton Oilers at Anaheim Ducks
Oh. Man.
Edmonton played last night in San Jose and got shelled in every aspect of the game, eventually losing 5-1. For the Oilers, that makes three straight losses now, allowing 13 goals over those three games. That’s a lot, even for them.
Anaheim, meanwhile, are coming off a month of December that saw them go 11-1-1 (their only regulation loss on the road in San Jose), scoring 45 goals in the process, an average of nearly 3.5 goals per game.
Edmonton is in a very bad way right now. After seeing their underlying numbers improve over a few weeks, they’ve been absolutely destroyed in their last three games at five on five. They’ve only been out-scored 7-6 at five on five in those games, but their possession numbers are below 40-percent, which is beyond awful. Their penalty kill hasn’t helped them, giving up three goals in their last three games, too.
Anaheim, meanwhile, hasn’t lost in regulation at home yet this year and already beat Edmonton at home a couple of weeks ago (albeit, it was just a 3-2 game). I really expect a better effort from Anaheim, and for this game to not even be close. Quack.
