New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins
The Rangers continue their five-game road trip tonight in Pittsburgh, having gone 2-1 in their first three games so far. The Rangers are now 12-9-0 on the road this season, the third-best mark in the Eastern Conference (and that’s saying something, considering they started the season on a nine-game road trip where they went 3-6).
Pittsburgh will again be without Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin tonight, and with Pascal Dupuis out now, they are lining up Sidney Crosby with Chris Kunitz and James Neal. They’ve done this in spurts the last few games, but only for a period here or there. Well, in essentially the last 6 periods of hockey Crosby/Neal have been together, Neal has two goals and three assists. If he stays on that top line for a full game, with the power play, then look out.
This is the third meeting this year between the two teams, with the Rangers taking one in November 5-1 and the Penguins taking one a couple weeks ago 4-3 in a shootout. In that most recent game, the Stepan line and the Crosby line were matched for much of the game, with the Crosby line scoring once at even strength and once on the power play, and the Stepan line held off the scoresheet. If you’re going to take Rangers, take their depth guys, but I see the top line for Pittsburgh filling the net tonight.
Note: Ryan Callahan is expected back tonight after missing three weeks with a knee injury. At the morning skate, he was skating on the third line, though it remains to be seen if that’s where he actually ends up.
