Los Angeles Kings at St. Louis Blues
Los Angeles is on a bit of a slide after starting the month of December on a tear; after winning six straight to start the month, they lost four straight in regulation to end the month, three of those games on the road, being outscored 12-6 along the way.
St. Louis, meanwhile, has gone 5-0-1 in their last six games and finished December with a mark of 9-3-2 for the month. These two teams meet tonight for the second time this year, the first contest coming at the start of December, a 3-2 Kings win in Los Angeles.
This is another game that could be all about special teams as St. Louis has scored five power play goals in their last five games (while giving up four) and Los Angeles only has two PP goals in their last eight games (while giving up seven). If the Kings don’t stay out of the penalty box, this could be a long night for them.
The Blues will still be without two-thirds of their top line as David Backes is expected to miss the game tonight while Alex Steen is still officially listed with a concussion. That would give me pause when it comes to selecting a goaltender from this game tonight. I expect another close game, and probably not a lot of goals either.
