Winnipeg Jets at Ottawa Senators
Two teams that have been struggling with consistency all year meet tonight at the Canadian Tire Centre. Winnipeg has won three games in a row while Ottawa has won three of their last four, so tonight is a chance to continue their respective consistent play.
This is the start of a fairly grueling mini three-game road trip to the East for Winnipeg as they get Ottawa tonight, then Boston and Pittsburgh on back-to-back nights on Saturday and Sunday. One bright spot of late for Winnipeg is their defense and goaltending; including a 6-2 loss in Edmonton, this team has only allowed 15 goals against in their last six games, which has helped bring them out of the bottom-10 in the NHL in goals against/game.
Ottawa will be starting Craig Anderson in net tonight, and it seems like he’s finally started to turn things around for his season: Anderson had a .921 save percentage for the month of December, which spanned across 10 games. He’s also only allowed four goals against in his last three starts, which were games against Pittsburgh, Boston and Washington, all top-10 scoring teams.
I would expect Ottawa to take this game tonight, though it will probably be a tightly-checked contest. If you were taking a goalie, I’d want Anderson over Al Montoya in this game (though it is a gamble).
