Chicago Blackhawks at New York Islanders
Chicago had a pretty successful December, going 8-3-3 for the month and 5-0-2 in their last seven games which included wins over Los Angeles (twice) and Colorado. Their last time out, the ‘Hawks beat Los Angeles 1-0, representing the first time since November 19 that the Blackhawks scored fewer than 2 goals.
The Islanders, meanwhile, have won two consecutive games in regulation for the first time all season. That sounds about right for a team near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but it just goes to show how bad this team has been for most of this season so far.
This is the second meeting of these two teams, the first coming early on in the season, which was a 3-2 win for Chicago in Chicago. A lot has changed since then for both teams, and Chicago dominated that game a lot more than the score would indicate.
The biggest edge has to be with their respective special teams; Chicago is nearly at the top of the power play efficiency list coming in at 24.3-percent while the Islanders have the worst penalty kill in the NHL at 73.8-percent.
While the Islanders have played a bit better lately, this is still the top team in the NHL they’re facing. I would avoid the goalies, though, as there should be a lot of goals tonight.
