Detroit Red Wings at Nashville Predators
Former division rivals and now an intra-Conference game, Detroit and Nashville meet for the first time this season. It also marks Detroit’s final game before the Winter Classic on New Year’s Day. I’d like to think professional teams are more focused than this, but it’s not out of the question that maybe Detroit could be looking ahead to that game and not 100-percent into tonight’s game.
This is a game that will probably be decided by the special teams. In their last six games, the Predators have allowed seven power play goals against, which has led to a paltry 63.2-percent efficiency on the kill. Detroit, meanwhile, has converted three of their previous 11 power play chances in their last four games which has helped propel them into 12th in PP efficiency this year. The flipside to this is that Detroit has allowed a power play goal against in three of their last four games while the Predators have scored nine power play goals in their last eight games.
Tonight will make 13 games in 27 days for the Red Wings and they have a much “bigger” game in a couple days. I will be sprinkling some Predators across my lineups today, including whoever gets the nod in net.
Quick note: Henrik Zetterberg missed practice yesterday after returning to the lineup for the first time in several weeks. He will probably play tonight, but it’s likely he’s playing through injury and is not 100-percent.
