Los Angeles Kings at Chicago Blackhawks
Their last three games have seen the Kings go 1-2-0 (their win coming via the shootout) and their penalty kill, which is still among the best in the NHL, has been the one letting them down, allowing four goals against in their last 13 short-handed situations. They would do well to try and maintain a sparkling penalty kill record tonight, as the Chicago Blackhawks have scored 16 power play goals in 13 games this month.
The Blackhawks have been pretty good everywhere this year, but they are 5-1-2 at home this month and have scored 12 goals in their last two home games. Granted, those games were against New Jersey and Colorado and not the Los Angeles Kings, but they still managed a 3-1 win over Los Angeles in Chicago a couple of weeks ago.
That 3-1 win was a bit of a weird one: The Kings managed to allow a short-handed, even strength and power play goal against all in the same game; The Kopitar line matched up with the Toews line for most of the game, and the Toews line dominated; The Kings needed 37 saves from Ben Scrivens to even keep the game close.
This should be another close game, but likely another game that Chicago wins in the end. Antti Raanta’s price has dropped enough now that he makes a good play in net tonight, too.
