Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames
Vancouver got the news that they’ll be without goaltender Roberto Luongo for up to a couple of weeks, which means the starting duties fall on the shoulders of backup Eddie Lack. That’s not necessarily bad news, either, as Lack has a .928 save percentage in 11 games this year and has won all four of his December starts, allowing just five goals against in the process (and one of those games was a shootout win in Chicago).
Calgary is coming off a pretty embarrassing home shutout loss against the Edmonton Oilers, so one would think they’d have a little extra motivation tonight. The problem is, they just aren’t a very good team: even though they’ve gone 5-5-2 this month, they’ve scored two goals or fewer in eight of those 12 games and have been shut-out twice.
Despite their 2-1-1 record in their last four games, the Canucks have scored just seven goals. I would anticipate a low scoring affair tonight in Calgary, though Vancouver should take the game. Calgary’s penalty kill hasn’t been very sharp lately, going along at a 72.2-percent clip in their last five games, and that’s trouble when you’re facing the Sedin twins.
