Carolina Hurricanes at Toronto Maple Leafs
The Hurricanes have been fairly symmetrical lately, going 4-4-4 so far in the month of December. Lately, however, they are 1-3-4 in their last eight games. Despite this, the Hurricanes are still just six points back of Toronto for the final playoff spot in the East.
It’s not like Toronto has been much better either. Despite one regulation win in their last 19 games, the Leafs are still three points clear of their next-closest competition.
There has been a lot of extra hockey played by these two teams in the last little while, as the Leafs have gone to a shootout in four straight games, while the Hurricanes have gone past the regulation minutes four times in their last seven games.
This should be a close game – their only meeting this year was a 3-2 win by Carolina in Carolina – so I would avoid both goaltenders. That said, I would be looking at some specific value plays on both sides.
