Edmonton Oilers at Calgary Flames
‘The Battle of Alberta’ just isn’t what it used to be when the two teams involved have combined for fewer wins this year than the Chicago Blackhawks have by themselves. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to like for DFS.
Edmonton ended a six-game losing streak just before Christmas with a 6-2 win against Winnipeg. I’m not reading anything into that game, as they were playing a tired Jets team at the end of a back-to-back on the road. This is still a bad, bad Oilers team.
If there’s anything that can be said about the Flames, it’s that they don’t take many nights off. This helped them to a 5-4-2 record in the month of December thus far, including an overtime win earlier this month against this very Oilers team.
One curious thing about this matchup is that the Flames and the Oilers are ranked 28th and 30th respectively in the NHL in goals against/game, yet their two contests so far this year against each other have only produced nine goals. I guess two negatives really do make a proof positive.
Because of the price of certain players, I will be looking at certain parts of this game, but it’s probably not going to be a Wild West shootout that you’d expect from two poor defensive teams.
