Buffalo Sabres at Toronto Maple Leafs
I’m sure as much as the Sabres players wanted time off, it might not have been the best thing for them.
In their final seven games leading into the break, the Sabres went 4-2-1 and they weren’t playing all powderpuff teams: they beat Boston, Phoenix, Ottawa, and Winnipeg.
Toronto, meanwhile, has one regulation win in 38 days, are 4-6-2 so far in the month of December, and have scored one goal or fewer in five of their last eight games. They’ve had their problems with Buffalo this year, too, as they are 1-1-1 against the worst team in the NHL.
The offense is finally starting to come around for Buffalo, as they’ve averaged over 30 shots on goal in their last four games, and scored 11 goals over that stretch. Yes, that’s a small sample, but they’re numbers well above their season norms, and are a result of Buffalo’s possession numbers steadily climbing under the tutelage of new coach Ted Nolan.
I don’t expect a lot of goals tonight, but neither Ryan Miller nor Jonathan Bernier are that cheap, so I’d rather look elsewhere for my goaltenders.
