New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets
This will be the second meeting between these two teams this year, with the Jackets taking both those games by scores of 4-1 and 5-4.
After losing five of their first six games this month, the Devils have gone 3-1-1 in their last five. What’s curious about those five games is their three wins were starts by Martin Brodeur while those two losses were both started by Cory Schneider. As my friend Chris Wassel says, Schneider just isn’t getting the run support; in Schneider’s five starts this month, the Devils have scored two goals per game. In Brodeur’s six starts this month, the Devils are averaging 3.83 goals for per game.
The Blue Jackets have been scoring at a pretty prolific rate recently: in their last seven games, the Jackets have scored 28 goals total. What’s even more impressive about that is they’ve done it largely without the help of the power play, which has gone just 8.7-percent over those contests.
This game could be a sneaky high-scoring game, making a lot of the skaters good starts because they are relatively cheap.
