Anaheim Ducks at Washington Capitals
The Ducks haven’t lost in regulation in nearly a month, having gone 9-0-2 since a road loss on November 26th. Over those 11 games, the Ducks have outscored their competition 40-23. The most amazing part isn’t averaging 3.64 goals for an 11 game stretch, it’s that their power play is just 16.2-percent over that stretch.
Washington, meanwhile, is scoring a pile of goals and is having trouble keeping just as many out of their own net; the Capitals have 31 goals for and 30 goals against in nine games this month and are still 5-2-2 in those nine games.
If you believe in the “advanced stats”, then the Ducks have found some pretty good fortune over those last 11 games and the Capitals are even more fortunate to have 12 of a possible 18 points in their last nine games. These are two teams riding a high for different reasons, which creates a lot of uncertainty for tonight.
There is no chance I take any goalie in this game, much like the Leafs/Rangers game, but there should be a lot of goals but be a bit wary of the high-priced Caps players; the Ducks penalty kill is 84.6-percent this month, which is typically a top-10 penalty kill efficiency.
