Dallas Stars at Los Angeles Kings
The Stars are playing some good hockey at times, though it’s pretty inconsistent.
For about a month now, the Stars have neither won nor lost more than two games in a row. Conversely, the Kings are 9-1 this month and have allowed more than two goals against just once since November 7th. I double-checked that.
The Stars are coming off one of the best games of the season, a 3-2 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night that was 85 shots on net total. They’re pretty much a .500 team on the road, having gone 2-2-2 in their last six games away from home (10-8-2 on the season).
Los Angeles is riding a pretty successful home stand right now, having won three games in a row, outscoring their opponents 9-3 along the way.
Martin Jones would seemingly be the lock of the night in net, but I worry about when the ceiling comes crashing down; Jones is saving nearly 98% of the shots he’s faced at even-strength, which is completely insane. Tonight might not be the start of that decline, but it will come soon. At his price now, though, it’s not worth the risk.
