Dallas Stars at San Jose Sharks
The Stars have won three of their last four games, scoring 15 goals along the way. San Jose, meanwhile, is just 3-5-1 this month, though most of their games have played on the road. The Sharks had won five straight home games coming into December, so it’s undoubtedly a most welcome homecoming for them tonight.
The Stars, despite playing mostly good hockey of late, have been prone to getting blown out in certain games; Dallas has allowed six goals against three separate times in their last 13 games. Coincidentally, two of those games were on the road against strong Western Conference opponents. I present the San Jose Sharks.
The Sharks, meanwhile, have their own problems. Besides the deteriorating play of goalie Antti Niemi, the Sharks have gone three straight games without a power play goal and have just 21 goals this month overall in nine games. At just over two goals per game, this is far from the San Jose team we saw back in October.
All that said, I expect San Jose to win this game, and probably by a few goals. It’s not a terrible play to have Niemi as your goalie tonight, but there are other goalies at his price point that might be a better play (like McElhinney).
