Philadelphia Flyers at Columbus Blue Jackets
The Flyers have gone 2-0-1 in their last three games, scoring 14 goals in the process. The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, have gone 0-2-1 in their last three games, allowing 12 goals against in those games. Reinforcements are on the way for Columbus, however, as both Marian Gaborik and James Wisniewski are set to return to the lineup tonight to add a little punch to the Blue Jackets’ offense.
These two teams met on Thursday with Philadelphia skating away with a 5-4 victory, with the Flyers scoring three goals in the last five minutes of the game to win in regulation. With the added studs to the lineup, I don’t expect that to happen twice.
My initial lean for this game is to go with Columbus, though I’m not sure how much help the goaltending will be: Columbus has allowed 18 goals against in their last five games, and Wisniewski and Gaborik aren’t going to help much in that department.
Steve Mason’s December regression continues, as his save percentage has dropped 12 points so far this month, down to .922 on the year. That is still solid, but it makes me worry about picking him tonight in any games. If it’s Ray Emery that goes, all Blue Jackets players get a bump up. I would go with Curtis McElhinney in games where I’m looking for a cheaper option (though his price has risen to the point where this isn’t an overwhelmingly obvious play).
