Anaheim Ducks at New York Islanders
Both teams are coming off wins last night on the road, which makes tonight a bit of an intriguing matchup.
It’s a tough game to analyze, because naturally the Ducks would be the correct pick. However, back to back games on the road is not ideal for any franchise and it’s not like the Ducks are creating a plethora of chances: Anaheim is seventh in the NHL at 31.7 shots for/game yet haven’t had more than 34 shots in nine straight games. Though they have 30 goals in those nine games, it tells me that their shooting percentage as a team has to tumble sometime soon (and that bears out in their league-leading 9.6-percent shooting at 5v5, and 11.1-percent in close games).
One remarkable aspect of the Ducks’ seven game winning streak is that they have zero power play goals in four straight games, yet have scored 13 goals in those four games. The Islanders, meanwhile, have allowed four short-handed goals against in their last five games.
With both teams on a back-to-back, this is a toss-up game. I wouldn’t be afraid to pick a few value picks, but won’t have either of the goalies.
