DFS Daily Fantasy Hockey Update – December 20

Evander Kane

Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes

In seven games so far this month, the Capitals have allowed 23 goals against and scored 23 goals themselves. This has produced a 4-2-1 record for Washington, thanks to two shootout wins and one shootout loss.

Carolina, meanwhile, has gone 4-2-2 so far this month themselves and those wins include San Jose, Phoenix and this very Washington team.

Washington is a bit of a mess in net right now. The shootout wins are masking the problems; the Capitals are getting badly outplayed almost on a nightly basis. However, when you have guys like Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, a lot of problems might not seem as bad as they are. The reality is, they’ve allowed four power play goals against in their last four games, their competition is carrying the play almost every night, and they’re so uncertain about their goaltending that they’re carrying three of them now.

Carolina’s top line of Jeff Skinner, Eric Staal and Tuomo Ruutu looks to be a good play tonight. They usually end up against the other team’s top line, and the Capitals top line isn’t exactly known for stellar defense. It appears though Cam Ward is starting for Carolina, but this is another game where I’d rather not have either goalie.
