New York Islanders at New York Rangers
In just their second meeting of the season so far, the Islanders will be looking for revenge on an October 29 loss, or perhaps any of the 18 losses suffered in the last 21 games.
It’s been quite a bomb-out stretch for the Islanders as they’ve now all but taken themselves out of the playoffs for the year. A lot of it has been goaltending, sure, but this is a team that was seventh in goal scoring in the NHL last year and are just 24th this year, averaging about a half goal less per game than in the lockout-shortened season. On top of that, their power play is in the bottom-third this year after tying for tenth in the league last year at 19.9-percent.
All this said about the Islanders, the Rangers are struggling worse at home than I did in first year Latin. The Blueshirts have gone 1-3-2 so far on this home stand, giving up 27 goals in those six games. There are a whole host of reasons why the Rangers have struggled at home this year: The penalty kill is worse at home, their power play is much worse at home, basically everything is worse at home for the Rangers this year.
I don’t have a lot of faith in the Rangers but I have to think they win this game at home tonight. As they say, the Islanders just don’t have the horses to match lines against the Rangers. Neither of the goalies are confirmed, but I would expect Henrik Lundqvist in net for the Rangers (and would avoid him).
