Minnesota Wild at Colorado Avalanche
Minnesota’s road woes continue to sink their season. On the year, they are now 5-8-3 away from home and have now lost five straight games on the road, were shutout in two of them, and were outscored 14-5 over that stretch. One of those losses was a 3-2 shootout loss to the Avalanche.
Colorado hasn’t been playing their best hockey of late, but of note is that Matt Duchene had a three point night in his last game, which equalled his output for his previous 11 games. He’s the catalyst that drives this offense, and they need him to be consistent if they want to win games consistently.
At first glance, this should be a low-scoring game. Minnesota struggles to score on the road, Colorado’s power play has now gone goalless in nine straight games that spans more than three weeks of hockey. However, Minnesota’s penalty kill is only operating at a 73-percent clip in their last five road games, which would make tonight a decent spot for Colorado to get the offense going.
These are two fairly even teams but I do expect Colorado to take this one. Semyon Varlamov’s price has dropped considerably since his regression started to hit a couple of weeks ago, so he’s not a bad option between the pipes, either.
