San Jose Sharks at Nashville Predators
To be sure, San Jose is one of the top teams in the NHL this year. That said, they aren’t unbeatable, especially on the road. The Sharks have nine wins in 17 road games this year, or barely .500 hockey. In their last nine games away from the Shark Tank, they are 4-4-1 and their four wins came against Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto. Not exactly a murderer’s row of quality hockey teams.
I don’t like to draw a lot of straight lines between events to find causation in sports because that’s just not how it works. That said, the return of Shea Weber has helped the Predators settle down defensively and they have now won two of three games since he returned. They had lost three straight games without him.
It’s a bit tougher to really pick a side in this game because as of right now, neither goalie is confirmed. While I expect Antti Niemi vs. Carter Hutton, and perhaps a low-scoring game, Left Wing Lock has Marek Mazanec as probable for the Predators, and he’s been a sieve in his last few starts.
This game will probably be closer than it looks on paper, so the value plays are probably the best plays here.
