Montréal Canadiens at New York Islanders
The Canadiens went on a pretty good tear but have now lost back-to-back games, being outscored 8-1 in the process. It’s not to say they were grossly outplayed – the overall shots were 57-52 against – but their power play has gone ice cold and that’s a problem for a team like Montréal.
The Islanders are coming off a fairly disastrous Western road trip, going 1-4 in those five games, being outscored 21-8 over that stretch. Part of it is penalty killing, where they were just 71.4-percent over those games, and part of it is goaltending, as it has been for a few years now on the Island.
Coincidentally, the last time these two teams met, the Canadiens won 4-2, which snapped a four-game losing streak. The Canadiens would go on to win 10 of their next 12 games.
I don’t have a lot of confidence in either power play right now, as the Canadiens has been shut down for five straight games while their penalty kill has been stifling. I just really don’t have much of a read on this game, so will only be taking value plays here and there.
