As we saw in Week 5 with Tom Brady being shut down by the Bengals and Matt Schaub being beat up by the 49ers, a bad matchup can quickly spell a fantasy loss. On the other hand, a favorable matchup can make even Geno Smith look like a Pro Bowler.
This week, Brady’s luck doesn’t seem better but it is. Although the Saints D has contained Josh Freeman, Carson Palmer, and Ryan Tannehill, Matt Ryan and Jay Cutler have had no problem putting up big games against them. The toughest matchups of the week are Terrelle Pryor vs. KC, Russell Wilson against the Titans, Ryan Fitzpatrick vs. SEA, whoever starts for Minnesota vs. CAR, Matt Stafford vs. CLE, Brandon Weeden vs. DET, Sam Bradford vs. HOU, Nick Foles vs. TB, and Carson Palmer vs. SF. All of those guys are benchable this week.
On the other hand, Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin, Jay Cutler, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning, and Cam Newton have highly favorable matchups this week and are must-starts. Even Mike Glennon could be a sneaky play against the Eagles.
