Sports Jerks Network to Become XN Sports

After one year on the web, Sports Jerks Network becomes XN Sports in August 2013.

BOSTON-DETROIT – One of the growing sources of online sports news and information is rebranding itself, as the Sports Jerks Network will now be known as XN Sports. It’s part of an effort to increase reader awareness while expanding on its credibility.

“When it comes down to it, we’re just not the site we were when he had ‘Jerk’ persona,” says XN Sports co-founder Thomas Fitzgerald. “The name change was necessary as I believe the name was confusing to readers. When we started we would write tongue-in-cheek type pieces focusing on the worst plays in baseball. We wanted people to remember that sports were fun. But we realized that part of our love of sports also had a serious side and our writers reflect that. I’ll miss the ‘Jerks’ theme, but it’s simply time to move on.”

“You know, it’s sort of difficult to let go of the ‘Jerks’ in the name,” XN Sports co-founder Tom Laverty adds. “It really embodied the nature of how we look at the game – not taking it too seriously. In the end, though, I suppose we are quite serious about the games we love, and the funny side of things tends to take a back seat more often than not. We will surely miss referring to ourselves as jerks. That much is for sure.”

Both Fitzgerald and Laverty own MFAs in poetry, but their love of sports brought them to form Sports Jerks Network in November of 2012. What began as just a hobby for the two has quickly blossomed into XN Sports, and transformed the pair’s vision of what the site should be.

“Our initial impetus was to report on humor surrounding the ineptitude of professional athletes, but our passion for sports took us beyond that and we’ve found ourselves wanting to provide more,” Laverty says.

The XN Sports staff now features about 20 passionate and knowledgeable paid writers covering the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and fantasy sports. XN Sports has become a well-respected source for fantasy information which includes in-depth analysis from experienced experts, updated stats, player news, full-season player projections, and more.

Through the rebranding, XN Sports is committed to maintaining its quality sports coverage, but is not content to simply follow in the shadows of other outlets. XN Sports is continually working on ways to revolutionize how readers can get exactly the information they want, while providing the same content that has made the site a must-visit destination for its thousands of daily readers.
