All season long, the power from the National League has come from the Central Division. That has changed. The Braves maintain their hold as the best team in baseball, but it’s the Dodgers who have used an historic 50-game stretch to open up a 8.5-game lead in the West. Now, the Pirates and Cardinals are looking up at them both.

On the American League side of things, the Tigers and Red Sox remain the cream of the crop, but the Rays, Rangers, and A’s aren’t content to let things stay that way. Even the Yankees are doing what they can to convince the league they’re not dead yet.

And, in some related news, Sunday is National Banana Split Day. Seeing as a good dessert makes watching the boys of summer even better, these power rankings are presented with the big holiday in mind, by letting you know which ingredient each of these teams would be in baseball’s ultimate banana split.
