The trading deadline has the attention of the Major League Baseball landscape right now, and rightfully so. And our weekly MLB Power Rankings reflect that. The teams in the upper half of the standings are looking to buy, while many in the bottom half are trying to sell.

As for the rankings themselves, we have a change at the top. For the first time this year, the Tampa Bay Rays have claimed the #1 spot. It’s hard to argue at the moment. They’ve played incredible baseball over the last month and have wrestled first place away from the Red Sox in what may be the toughest division in the game.

There aren’t too many other big movers this week, except for the Royals. They’re now back at .500 and have rocketed up to the middle of the pack. The Reds, meanwhile, have struggled and have fallen out of the top 10. And who replaces them? The surging first-place Dodgers.

And, if all the trading deadline news doesn’t make these power rankings any more exciting, the notes are all done in haiku form for your enjoyment. You’re welcome.
