With plenty of players ailing this week, let’s take a look at some key injury developments that are sure to affect your fantasy team for the rest of week 11 and beyond.
Brandon Beachy (elbow): Barring any setbacks in his rehab, Beachy is expected to be activated from the DL by June 18. Beachy put up an impressive 2.00 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 69 K in 81 IP last season. It’s unclear who will be the odd man out of the rotation since all five Braves’ starters are doing well so stay tuned if you own one of those guys.
Clay Buchholz (collarbone): Buchholz, one of the early favorites in the AL Cy Young race, may have to miss his Friday start if his AC joint problem hasn’t improved. The Sox will make the decision after his side session later this week.
Shane Victorino (hamstring): Victorino continues to deal through a hamstring problem and will have his playing time reduced for the near future. Odds are he will get one game off for every two games played and likely miss day games after night games until he feels 100%.
Will Middlebrooks (back): Middlebrooks was activated from the DL on Monday and will serve as the Sox starting third-baseman – although Jose Iglesias might poach some time away as long as he keeps his hot bat.
Chris Perez (shoulder): Perez won’t be able to return from the DL on Tuesday when he’s first eligible but is expected back soon depending on how his mound sessions go so keep an eye out.
Zach McAllister (finger): McAllister has been placed on the 15-day DL and will miss anywhere from two to four weeks with a finger injury.
Michael Cuddyer (ribs): Cuddyer isn’t expected to be placed on the DL and could return as soon as Tuesday vs. the Nats.
Tyler Chatwood (triceps): The Rockies have designated Jon Garland for assignment to make room for Chatwood to take over a permanent rotation spot but he may have to miss his Friday start if his sore triceps doesn’t improve.
Austin Jackson (hamstring): Jackson is progressing in his minor league rehab stint and could be back as soon as Friday barring any setbacks.
Anibal Sanchez (shoulder): Sanchez was forced to miss his Sunday start with a stiff shoulder but is expected to start on Saturday against the Twins.
Matt Kemp (hamstring): Kemp was scheduled to return Friday but suffered a setback while running and no new timeline has been set for his return.
Hanley Ramirez (hamstring): Ramirez re-injured his hamstring on Saturday and hasn’t played since. He just returned from a month-long DL stint and may have to return to the DL for a third time this season if his leg doesn’t improve.
Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring): Stanton returned from the DL on Monday after sitting out since April 29.
Ryan Braun (thumb): Braun missed Monday’s game with a thumb injury that he’s been dealing with all month and may miss the rest of the series to try to give his hand more time to recover.
Trevor Plouffe (calf): Plouffe has begun a minor league rehab assignment and is expected to return as soon as Thursday.
Matt Harvey (back): Harvey left his last start after seven innings with back tightness but is fully expected to make his next start on Thursday. Harvey currently ranks among the top 5 NL pitchers in winning percentage (1.000), ERA (2.10), WHIP (0.91), and strikeouts (95).
Kevin Youkilis (back): Youkilis hasn’t played since sliding hard into first base on Saturday, Pete Rose style, but could return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday against Oakland.
Huston Street (calf): Street will begin a short minor league rehab stint on Wednesday and is expected to return shortly after he’s eligible to be activated from the DL on Friday.
Jedd Gyorko (groin): Gyorko has been placed on the 15-day DL with a right groin strain and will be replaced by Logan Forsythe at second.
Pablo Sandoval (foot): Sandoval is in a walking boot after suffering a left foot strain and has a high chance of landing on the DL if he doesn’t improve in the next couple days.
Angel Pagan (hamstring): The Giants placed Pagan on the DL on Friday but the move is backdated to the last time Pagan played on May 26. His recovery has not been going as well as hoped and it’s unclear how much time he will miss.
Jake Westbrook (elbow): Westbrook is expected to return from the DL and start on Friday, likely booting Tyler Lyons from the rotation. Westbrook has an impressive 1.62 ERA on the season but also owns a 1.46 WHIP and a 19 K/18 BB ratio.
Alexi Ogando (shoulder): Ogando managed just one start after returning from the DL on June 5 and has been placed back on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. Josh Lindblom is expected to take over his spot in the rotation after going 6-0 with a 2.04 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 2.87 K/BB ratio in Triple-A this season.
Stephen Strasburg (oblique): Strasburg is expected to return from the DL on June 16 and start against the Indians.
