To end the workweek, I’m building my daily fantasy team at Star Fantasy Leagues around the two highest-cost superstars. It leaves me less flexibility elsewhere, but it’s nice to see those names in my lineup. So come challenge me over at SFL or use my lineup as the basis for yours. And, while you’re there, use the promo code “SJN” for a 40% deposit bonus.
(C) J.P. Arencibia $6,208 – Arencibia is hitting .281 at home this year and is coming off a 2-hit performance last night with a home run, a double, and 4 RBI.
(1B) Chris Davis $9,005 – Davis is in the midst of yet another hot streak, hitting .407 with 4 home runs in the last week.
(2B) Marco Scutaro $6,676 – Scutaro’s MLB-best 19-game hitting streak was snapped on Wednesday night, but his .331 average has him at fifth in the NL in batting. No reason to think he can’t start another streak tonight.
(3B) Miguel Cabrera $12,303 – Cabrera’s last four games: 9 hits, 6 home runs, 9 runs, 13 RBI, 5 walks. Need I say more?
(SS) Brendan Ryan $3,005 – It’s not often I add a player who has a batting average below the Mendoza Line on the season, but Ryan is hitting .393 in his last 8 games with hits in 7 of those.
(OF) Mike Trout $11,285 – Next to Cabrera, Trout might be the hottest hitter in baseball right now. He’s batting .409 in the last week with 8 hits in the last 3 games alone, including 2 home runs.
(OF) Carlos Gonzalez $8,105 – Gonzalez has hits and runs in 4 of his last 6 games and is hitting .325 with 6 home runs on the road this year.
(OF) Michael Bourn $7,355 – Bourn has been a key cog in the Indians’ hot lineup and has 13 hits over the last week, with 4 stolen bases.
(U) Yan Gomes $5,105 – Gomes is another hot Clevelander right now, riding a 7-game hitting streak and has 3 home runs in his last 3 games.
(SP) Kris Medlen $12,193 – Don’t let Medlen’s 1-5 record fool you. He’s just been unlucky. His 2.67 runs of support per game is the 7th-lowest in all of baseball and he still has 6 quality starts and a 3.02 ERA. Tonight, he gets the Mets, against whom he’s 3-0 in 5 career starts with a 1.58 ERA.
(SP) David Phelps $10,225 – Phelps has made 4 starts this season and has been pretty good, posting a 2.84 ERA in those starts and averaging 6 strikeouts an outing. He’ll face off against the Rays tonight.
(RP) Jason Grilli $2,425 – Might as well roll with the Major League saves leader whose team is facing the reeling Brewers.
(P) Samuel Deduno $6,091 – This pick falls in with my recent strategy of adding the least expensive starting pitching option and seeing what happens. Tonight, that just so happens to be Deduno against the Tigers.
