Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks – March 5

Montreal Canadiens left wing Max Pacioretty

Last night our FanDuel lineup scored 30.50 fantasy points and we went 1-1 in head-to-head matchups. Kadri helped our cause with 8.2 fantasy points while our continued trust in Roman Josi continued to hurt us (-0.2 fantasy points). Cam Fowler came through with a power play assist and earned us 2.3 fantasy points. Sidney Crosby had a Crosby-like game and earned us 7.8 fantasy points while our trust in Teddy Purcell was not rewarded (-0.2 fantasy points).

When you get 30.50 points in daily fantasy hockey you normally feel ok about yourself—but it also makes you question yourself. Was I trying to be too tricky with Josi and Purcell? I don’t think so. They’re not unknowns. The existential nightmare that is daily fantasy gaming has caused strong men to collapse. I am not a strong man—it doesn’t take a lot to give me nightmares. The only cure is to pick a new lineup.

There are 11 games tonight so our player pool is very large. Nights like these offer up great options. Steven Stamkos is always a great play. Max Pacioretty is dialed in. I like Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds. Rick Nash has four points in his last two games to go along with 15 shots. We could go on and on. I know, not ground breaking stuff—but I won’t reinvent the wheel to try to make myself look smarter than I really am.

Putting together the daily fantasy puzzle is about hitting on your lower priced players. I’ll start with Devan Dubnyk. He’s one of the cheapest goalie options at FanDuel and faces an underwhelming Columbus offense. Brad Marchand isn’t exactly cheap ($6,400) but he’s a borderline bargain as he has four points in his last two games. I’m going to dig deep and take Nail Yakupov tonight. Yakupov’s biggest downside is his plus/minus rating but I don’t expect Columbus to score many goals against Edmonton and at $4,100 Yakupov has a lot of upside. I’m going with Jonathan Huberdeau as my value Center. He has 20 shots and two goals over his past four games. He comes in at $5,100 on FanDuel. My value Defenseman tonight is Dougie Hamilton. If you’ve been reading my picks you know I roll with Hamilton almost every night Boston plays. He continues to produce yet his price has only risen to $4,000.

Here’s how I’ll fill out my FanDuel lineup tonight:

LW: Brad Marchand $6,400

LW: Max Pacioretty $8,400

RW: Chris Stewart $5,300

RW: Nail Yakupov $4,100

C: Steven Stamkos $9,400

C: Jonathan Huberdeau $5,100

D: Dougie Hamilton $4,000

D: Justin Schultz $5,400

G: Devan Dubnyk $7,000

Good luck tonight. May the daily fantasy gods be on your side.
