The bookends of our weekly power rankings remain unchanged as the St. Louis Cardinals continue to maintain their hold on the top spot and the Miami Marlins are, once again, looking up at everyone. The Cardinals are coming off a very marginal week, but they still have the most complete team and none of the other contenders for number one did enough to overtake them. The Marlins, meanwhile, are still the Marlins. They might as well be wearing cement shoes because they aren’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
As for the 28 teams in between, there have been a few big movers and shakers. Thanks to another nice week, Oakland is now in first place in the A.L. West and in the top five in our rankings. And, with the return of great pitching, the Royals are also making some moves up the standings and power rankings. Watch out for those Blue Jays, too, as that team north of the border is starting to get things together.
It’s not all good news on the charts, this week, though. Among some of the big sliders are the Rangers, Yankees and Angels. The Mets are also trying hard to go even lower, but even for them, it’s going to have to get really bad before they can stake their claim to one of the bottom three spots.
