2. Trestman, Smith top candidates to be coordinators
Former Falcons coach Mike Smith and former Bears coach Marc Trestman, both of whom were fired from their previous positions this offseason, are expected to follow Del Rio to the Bay Area.
Smith, who served as Jacksonville’s defensive coordinator under Del Rio, is the front-runner to assume the same position with Oakland, according to Bay Area News Group. Trestman, who was originally linked to Atlanta when Rex Ryan was the favorite to land the job, is now being connected to Del Rio, per FOX Sports. Trestman was meeting with the Cleveland Browns Wednesday when Del Rio’s hire was reported.
