The Cardinals defense has ranked fifth in the NFL in opponents’ points per game over the past season with Bowles at the helm. As mentioned, this past season Bowles did it without the likes of his two top linebackers — one who was suspended and one who left in free agency — while his top two pass-rushers were both put on I.R. early on. According to NFL Media, Bowles’ ability to put together a top-tier defense despite the uncanny rash of injuries and the way he found ways to plug in the holes sold the team on him.
