2. Personality make a difference
There are numerous ways to describe Ryan’s persona with the Jets. Rambunctious is one of them. In contrast, however, the new Jets regime liked Bowles because he simply exhibited a lot of leadership characteristics. According to NFL Media, the Jets felt Bowles resembled a lot of the same strengths as Arizona head coach Bruce Arians — he can relate to a lot of the players and is a very good motivator. The Jets were also high on Bowles when they saw him as interim head coach with the Miami Dolphins back during the final three games of the 2011 season after the team fired Tony Sparano. In the regular-season finale that year, Miami defeated New York, 19-17. Unlike Ryan, Bowles is much more soft-spoken. And though both Ryan and Bowles are defensive minds, that contrast in personality might have been precisely what owner Woody Johnson was seeking.
