As the season’s finish line is in sight, there is a change atop our MLB Power Rankings. Thanks to a 14-3 run, with all but three of those games coming against potential playoff teams, the Red Sox have reclaimed the number one spot. They now have the best record in all of baseball and own a 9.5-game lead in the A.L. East. Their magic number for clinching the division title and making a surprise return to the postseason is just eight.

The seven teams immediately behind them in the rankings have playoff berths all but sewn up. But that’s where it gets interesting, most specifically with the two A.L. wild card spots. There are six teams within two games of them and the two teams that are in command of them at the moment, the Rangers and Rays, could both very well miss the playoffs altogether. It will be a fun race to watch down the stretch.

Meanwhile, with September comes the start of the new television season. So this week’s rankings keep that in mind, as you’ll find each team with the show you’ll most likely find on their clubhouse TVs.
