Brady and the Patriots Got What They Deserved

If you cheat, you get in trouble.

How hard is that to understand?

My counterpart Tom Fitzgerald is a Massachusetts man, how could he not write something this biased: Brady Suspension a Complete Joke?

It’s in his blood. Maybe Fitz is a cheater too?

Point is, Brady likely cheated. There are some corroborating things surrounding him. There are people who said things. He wouldn’t give up his phone. Tom Brady wouldn’t give up his phone. Tom Brady, the guy who does an interview every thirty minutes, signs every ball, smiles into every camera. He refused to give his cell-phone. There’s a reason for everything.

Does a softer ball make that much of a difference? I doubt it. There has been no NFL quarterback consensus on this, and the little information we do have is just that some QBs like a less-deflated ball. Problem is, we don’t know what that means for the individual. What if a less inflated ball helps Brady more than it helps other quarterbacks? What if it’s Brady’s physiology allows for better grip with a ball like this? Only he knows.

45-7.

Bottom line (and so many sports are about the bottom line) is that Brady and the Patriots cheated, and Tom Brady lied and tried to cover it up.

I know how to evaluate evidence. Sometimes “circumstantial” is a word used to describe something more substantial. Cowards use this language.

Mohandas Gandhi said, “Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.” But what is a minority in the NFL? What is the truth? What is one?

It all gets made up. It gets made up as Roger Goodell goes along.

Four games is fair. The team that got caught cheating got caught cheating again. Make it hurt. Brady doesn’t need another Super Bowl. The Patriots have plenty of Super Bowls. There’s no reason to spare them.

Like Bonds and A-Rod, there is no point in protecting a legacy. Shame them. They cheated. They are cheaters. Make an example. Goodell is a coward for waiting, like Fitzgerald said, but four games is fair. A million dollars is fair (I guess). Draft picks, yes.

If you’re a fan of the NFL (and not a Pats homer) you get it.

If Ted Wells’ report insinuated that Brady was implicit, then suspend him. Fine the team. Make an example.

It’s the only thing King Roger can do. Because, you know, there’s no point in disciplining the NFL’s true villains. The wife-beaters, the gun-shooters, the child-whippers.

King Goodell chooses where to throw his hammer down.
