Daily Fantasy Hockey DFS Value Update – January 2, 2014

Logan Couture

Buffalo Sabres at Minnesota Wild

Buffalo finished the month of December going 4-2-1 in their last seven games, but it’s a bit misleading when talking about tonight’s game: Buffalo has lost 13 straight games on the road and haven’t won away from home in nearly two months (November 5). They have scored just seven goals in their last five road games, and allowed 15 in those contests.

Minnesota will be without goaltender Josh Harding tonight, and that’s a situation to monitor closely going forward. Harding played two games (both losses, seven goals against) after returning from missing some time while adjusting to new medication for his multiple sclerosis. It will be on Niklas Backstrom to hold down the fort temporarily, and he’s been well below average this season.

It worries me to ever rely on Backstrom as my DFS goalie, but realistically, getting the Buffalo Sabres at home is as good of a matchup as you’re ever going to get for him. He’s fairly well-priced, so I will have him across a couple lineups.

Other than Backstrom, I would stay away from this game. It just screams “2-1 (SO)” so there isn’t enough of a market to bother drawing from.
