Boxing – Morilla’s Sunday Report Card for Dec. 15

Keith Thurman

Frankie Gomez vs. Prince Doku Jr., 10 rounds, junior welterweights

Fighting in the same town, but in a different arena, former American amateur standout Gomez (16-0, 12 KO) made his first trek into the land of his ancestors and scored an impressive win against Ghana’s Doku Jr. (18-4, 12 KO), who never had a chance to stage any kind of offensive as Gomez landed solidly on his head less than two minutes after the only bell heard in the stadium on this particular bout. Too bad we didn’t get to see more of Gomez’s progress, but given his connections and the hype surrounding him, I’d say it won’t be long before we see him going for a bigger and tougher opponent.

The winner goes on to: Look for some extra TV exposure in Golden Boy undercards for Gomez, who only needs some extra confidence to grow into a championship-caliber fighter.
